With summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to visit the beach and appreciate mother nature’s masterpiece of natural beauty. While some of us look to relax and lounge in the sand, some artists claim the natural canvas to express creativity.
We enjoyed stumbling upon this internet discovery of artists who have taken the traditional sand castle art to a new 3D interactive mind-blowing level. This collection of artists called 3DSD is a collaborative group of two painters and one sculptor who have made it their mission to bend people’s perspective—by using the beach as an extra large canvas in Chile, New Zealand and France. The sand’s moist and dry properties allows them to create 3D illusions with the interplay of the light and dark sand using simple tools like sticks and rakes for a 3D illusion. But the art doesn’t stop there—they then integrate people. By taking it to this other level, it makes theses illusions even more realistic and concrete. Each art piece forces the viewer to also be aware of time and the brevity of life—as each canvas is inevitably washed away with the next tide.
