The creative team at Absher Design Group brought home three wins in the American Advertising Awards Competition. The competition, which was hosted by AdFed Suncoast on February 25, 2018, had Absher Design competing against the top industry professionals in their district. This is the first American Advertising Awards win since the joining of Madison Absher last year, with company Founder and Creative Director Lisa Absher, forming “The Power of Two;” a family design team. These wins showcase the design team’s unique and thoughtful use of creative brand elements that assist businesses in new branding, re-branding, and de-branding.
The American Advertising Awards is the largest creative competition in the advertising industry, with over 40,000 local entries competing in AAF Club competitions. Winning an award at the local Ad Club phase is the first step in competing for a National ADDY Award. Any entry that wins a Gold or Silver ADDY at the local phase level is eligible to advance and compete against other winners from local clubs in the 15 district competitions, and then those winners can go on to compete on the national level. The process of winning an award involves judges evaluating and scoring entries based on different creative dimensions of the work.
Absher Design won both gold and silver ADDY’s across several categories. They won two gold ADDY’s in the categories of Out-of-Home Installation and Photography Campaign and a silver ADDY for the Public Service Brand Elements category.
Both gold ADDY’s were earned for award-winning restaurant Mangino’s Pizzeria. Absher Design had previously brought home several ADDY awards for Mangino’s Naples, Florida location. The awards won in the photography and installation categories were completed for the pizzeria’s newest location in New Castle, Pennsylvania, which involved an entire brand’s makeover. The installation combines a modern industrial look with youthful graphics and vintage materials (some over 100 years old). These re-branding campaigns combine in the restaurant as one cohesive brand experience.
Madison Absher, the senior graphic designer, had this to say about joining her mother, Lisa Absher, in creating these collaborative wins: “I grew up watching my mother create brand campaigns for international corporate brands as well as designing her own award-winning work at her own local agency most recently. She instilled in me a work ethic and creative drive to design the very best, which has allowed me to continue her creative legacy and join her today in creating award-winning work.” This work ethic and drive has really paid off!
